'Chicken Shadows'

6" x 8" oil on gessoed board
I gave myself a time limit on this one which helped a lot to stop me from over correcting and I had great fun painting quickly.

'Collection in Blue' SOLD

18 x 24 cms = 7" x 9.5"
This was fun to paint and a lots less work than my recent paintings, it was really relaxing. My internet was sooooooooo slow yesterday I couldn't post this painting, I gave up after wasting loads of time.

'Sisters 2' SOLD

8" x 10" oil on canvas board

Here are my two girls that I painted last week, I started painting them yesterday but we had so many visitors and interruptions that I had to finish them off today. Their little faces were the challenge of the week, so I've decided I'm going back to still lifes for a rest!

6" x 8" oil on gessoed panel

This little lady took me a long time to paint, I had originally wanted to paint her on a larger panel but I had run out of large ones so I struggled on a little one.
She is posing for a photo being taken by her Dad to her left, in the gardens of the Alhambra Palace in Granada.

'Mojacar Fiesta' (available)

6" x 8" oil on gessoed board

This Spaniard on horseback was part of the annual Moors and Christians fiesta in the village of Mojacar. The parade starts when the sun is going down and lasts several hours. This handsome rider posed for me so that I could get some good photos, unfortunately the light was not very good because of the time of day and he had his back to the mountain, but in spite of that, I think that I managed to get quite a few usable pics. The evening ends up with the inevitable loud bangs and lots of fireworks.

'Sisters' SOLD

8" x 10" oil on gessoed board
I am really enjoying painting children on the beach, all taken from reference photos I have shot just for this purpose.
These two sisters, I watched while sitting on the beach, being interested in all the inter-actions between the various children.

'Wild Lavender' SOLD

8" x 10" oil on gessoed panel

This is my second painting for today. I fancied something that was a bit easier than a portrait and I have had the reference photo for this one for a while. It was a clump of agaves in the mountains where I used to take my dog walking and in the winter and late spring the whole campo was awash with wild flowers, from tiny Iris, sweet peas, thistles, gladioli, orchids and many others I don't know the name of. I was surprised that in such a barren and hot area so many plants can grow, as even in the winter it rarely rains (not like England) and these lavender clumps do very well among the rocks although they don't have a strong scent.

6" x 8" oil on gessoed board

Here is the portrait that I said I was going to paint, it is of my daughter Liza - she groaned when she saw what I was going to paint!!
Normaly I would use a grid when painting a portrait but after seeing Susan Carlin's painting video I thought I would try to paint without it, well it aint easy!!** this was a real tweaker to get everything in its right place, size and angle. I painted it yesterday and this morning I re-did the mouth (wrong angle) I think I'm pleased with it now. (I think I'm getting wrinkles from so much squinting)

'Concentration' SOLD

6" x 8" oil on gessoed panel SOLD

I started a bit late to paint today so I thought that I would do an easy one ha! not as easy as I thought getting the little lad's stance right and the very shallow water at Mar Menor but I got there in the end, with a lot of corrections and tweaking.

'Trio of Tulips (available)

8" x 10.5" plus half inch borders all around ready for mounting and framing water colour on 300grs cold pressed water colour paper $45 +$10 p&p

I have just received a present of artist quality water colours in the post and i have been itching to try them out, so I decided to try a nice loose flower painting. They are beautiful paints so rich and strong a pleasure to paint with.

'China Cup' SOLD

8" x 10" oil on gessoed panel
This is a painting I started on Friday and did n't finish, as the statice is a dried flower I could leave the set up until today. The cup took me the longest to get right with the spoon a close second! I love the colour of the material that I used as a base, I bought it ages ago to make myself a skirt out of it, which I have yet to do (too busy painting!)

'Contemplation' (

6" x 8" = 15 x 2o.3 cm oil on gessoed panel

This little girlie I photographed on the beach at Mar Menor last year she had such beautiful hair. I enjoyed painting yesterdays girls so I decided to paint another picture today one with the same theme.

Towards the end of painting the face all my small round paint brushes turned into shaving brushes for some reason which was most frustrating! Maybe it was a sign to stop fiddling.

'On the Beach' (available)

6" x 8" = 15 x 20.3 cms oil on gessoed panel $65 + p&p

I wanted to paint a portrait today but my printer was out of ink, I had this photo already so I thought that I would give it a go. It has turned out alright and these two little girls look like they are enamoured with the sea-side.

'Pomegranite Blossoms' (available)

6" x 8" oil on gessoed panel $65 +$12 p&p
My internet has been off and on all day and I have been trying to post this blog without much success up until now, anyway this was an interesting new subject for me to paint.
The most trouble I had was trying to find or make a light red, when I added white to the mix of course it went pink so I'm stumped as to how to get the tone I wanted.

'Orange Reflections' (available)

6" x 8" oil on canvas board (watermark only on photo) $65

Here's my favourite jug on a busy piece of cloth, I did toy with the idea of painting a plain background, but then I thought 'what the heck!' and left it as was.
I painted two paintings today, the one above and one of a flowering pomegranite twig, that I got given to me on my Birthday and I thought - well there's a new subject to paint, so that's what I did, I will post that one tomorrow.

Friday, 2 May 2008

Today is a big birthday for me, now I am officially ancient! Where did all those years go?
I won't be painting today.. lots to do. So hopefully paint again on Monday.. have a good week-end.

'Garrucha Boats'

24" x 18" = 61 x 46 cms acrylic on canvas $250 + $25 p&p
This is the painting I started two or three months ago and never got around to finishing.
So I thought today I would take time out from my daily paintings and get it finished at last.
I don't like painting a picture over such a long period as I lose momentum and forget want I wanted to achieve so I'm not sure whether or not it's OK but at least it's out of the way.
