1641 Seen to be Green SOLD

7" x 10" oil on panel, unframed

This was the shiniest apple I have ever seen at the store, do they have little elves with polishing clothes to get them that glossy?!!

1640 Peared Down

16" x 20" oil on   canvas panel, framed

Back to straight realism for a while, I might intersperse these with a few experimentations, just to please myself!
I shall be winging my way back to Europe at the beginning of the New Year, looking forward to being back home again and having a dedicated room to paint, peace and quiet with no interruptions from little people and pets. Not that I don't love em but granny duties are over for awhile  I can really concentrate on my art career and make plans and be deliciously self indulgent as well.

1638 Dissolving Lemon SOLD

6" x 8" oil on panel,unframed,

I'm enjoying playing with my still lifes, this one is on roughly gessoed panel and painted with a brush and palette knife, the mandarin to the left is unrecognizable dressed in gold foil and the lemon decided to join the background.

1637 Kissing Cousins SOLD

6" x 8" oil on panel

Another experimental piece, this time I gessoed the panel and then scratched into it to make this effect and then painted the fruit onto the surface. I like the resulting painting, it's different as they say!

1636 Outshine You

12" x 9" oil on panel, framed
This little orange just outshines the other objects in this still life, they retreat into the background with envy!

1635 Mangoed!

9" x 12" oil on panel, framed
Another loose one, a combination of brush and palette knife. The colourful leaves I found on our patio and I thought that they would be a good combination with this lovely mango,  that echoed their hues perfectly.

This is an upside down wineglass disguised with  aluminum foil. The little mandarins are bathed in the reflected light.

1633 Foiled Again!

9" x 12" oil on panel, framed

I loved painting the one yesterday, so I found some coloured foils in my local store and thought that I might do a series of foiled items and see where this will lead.

Hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are enjoying a few days of relaxation.

1629 'An Apple Besides' SOLD

ebay
12" x 9" oil on panel , unframed SOLD

Another loose one painted with a palette knife, I'm trying really hard not to perfect things and hope that I may have many happy accidents ;)  I'm loving stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something new, I want to make my paintings have more energy and that something that makes them less than ordinary.

I'm guessing it has something to do with self confidence, and confidence in ones ability. I learn something new with every painting. I'm really inspired by browsing other artists blogs and web-sites and get so many ideas that kick start my own creative juices.

1628 Little Gourd

9" x 12" oil on panel, framed

Just finished a really tight still life which I found I wasn't really enjoying painting, so I thought that I would give myself an artist's 'bus-man's holiday'  so I set this one up and with a large flat brush off I went and enjoyed  painting this immensely, fast and loose with a bit of palette knife work too, so whatta you think?

1626 Flanked

9" x 12" oil on panel, framed

Well it's back to still lifes!
This colourful autumn leaf was found by my daughter and it has dried beautifully, if a bit fragile, I teamed it up with these two pretty pears that echo its colour palette.

1625 Mama, Papa and Me

20" x 20" x 2.5" oil on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted, available.

The last of three paintings in this mini series, I chose it because of the long shadows which were so perfect on that bright and sunny day. Now what to paint next.....................

1623 Is that Sand? also available as a print!

20" x 20" oil on deep gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted ready to hang  also available here as a  print

Oh so lovely to paint loosely after so many 'tight' paintings and to paint thickly too, I really enjoyed painting this one. The subject is of course my grandson Kai when he found a large mound of sand at a pumpkin farm recently.

1622 Dark and Luscious

12" x 12" oil on deep gallery wrapped canvas, to hang unframed

The last of my three grape paintings, now I'm going to paint something completely different, my grandson. It's always good to change subjects now and again and I'm aiming to paint much looser too, well try anyway ;)

1621 Full of Juice

12" x 12" oil on deep gallery wrapped canvas, to hang unframed

The second of three hanging grape paintings, the next one is already blocked in and will be of black grapes on a dark background that will be another challenge!

I have entered the Boldbrush painting competition, sponsored by FASO my web-site provider and free to enter, every month. The quality and quantity of the work done by other artists is staggering and perusing those wonderful paintings really shows one what can be achieved with a paint brush.   Here is the link  http://faso.com/boldbrush/

Well the 80 days of blue skies and sunshine are over and it's rain, rain and more rain here in WA, I think it's preparing me for the weather in Ireland.

1619 On Reflection SOLD

11" x 20" oil on panel, framed
This painting seems to be a game of two halves, the two fruits on the left gossiping about the two snooty glasses admiring their reflections in the silver platter!

1618 One in the Pot SOLD

11" x 20" oil on panel, framed, available

Loved painting this one, a lot of nice simple shapes ;) Trying to use up all my boards before I go back to Ireland, don't know when that will be, I'm a bit in limbo at the moment, so I am just taking it one day at a time.

1617 Bite Me!

16" x 12" oil on linen, framed

My second painting of hanging fruit on un-stretched linen canvas, I am enjoying painting on this surface, not as hard on my paint brushes as gessoed panels. The squash I found in a mound of the most interesting ones at the local supermarket, this one was a plain Jane compared to the others.

Monday, 8 October 2012

1616 Left Hanging SOLD

16" x 12" oil on linen, framed

It's peculiar, one can paint away happily for long periods of time with loads of new ideas for future paintings  and then comes the end of a certain series and then BLANK!!! no inspiration... That is what happened to me after the five large square paintings were finished, I couldn't come up with anything, I started one and hated it, so pushed it into the corner :(  then I perused other artists work to get some ideas and fortunately that helped, so although not an original idea to hang fruit it was new to me and it got me kick started again. It's an awful feeling when the creative juices stop flowing.

1614 Autumn Collection & growing up fast

20" x 20" oil on gallery wrapped deep canvas, sides painted black, ready to hang, available

The nights are getting chilly and the leaves are turning colour here, the first hints of Autumn in the air. The plums and the hazelnuts are finds from a recent walk with my grandson Kai which make perfect subjects to be painted.

I'm thinking of painting on primed un-stretched canvas, which I have never done before, the reason being, they would be easier to send to Ireland and less weighty as I am spending a lot on postage sending boards. Has anybody got any tips for me, things to watch out for? Would appreciate some feedback on the subject.

Don't babies grow up fast when I arrived in Washington kai was 8 months old now he's 14 months up and running and climbing and getting his cute little fingers into everything here's my favourite pic of him.

1613 Peaches and Cream Blossom

20" x 20" oil on gallery wrapped deep canvas, sides painted black, ready to hang, available

This is my favourite of the four I have just finished painting and the peaches were the best I have ever eaten too, it's such an added bonus to be able to eat your painting subject, which sounds pretty gruesome huh!!

1610 An Apple a Day

20" x 20" oil on gallery wrapped deep canvas, sides painted black, ready to hang, available

Some pretty apples bought at a local farmers market, one with still a leaf on, nestled in this simple blue pot, complimenting the colour of the apples.

1611 Pepper Party

20" x 20" oil on gallery wrapped deep canvas, sides painted black, ready to hang, available

The first of a series of still lifes painted on gallery wrapped canvas. These lovely peppers I bought at a local farmers market and the stem with leaves and blossoms I picked from over the fence at the bottom of our garden.

Friday, 31 August 2012

1608 Cheese and Onion SOLD

8" x 16" oil on panel  framed,  sold

Another still life similar to  my last painting same format similar set up.
I'm just finishing up my last Koi painting and then it's back to more still lifes all 20" x 20"  so that my Seattle gallery is well supplied.
Well here in the State that gets ample rain (Washington) and is normally very green, there hasn't been any of the wet stuff falling from the sky for at least a month just blue skies and sunshine, which of course is very nice too, but I'm sure the rest of the year will make up for it aplenty!

Friday, 24 August 2012

1606 Copper Pan SOLD

1604 Water Beauty

20" x 20" oil on 2 1/2" deep gallery wrapped canvas

This is a definite departure from my normal subjects.
I was requested to paint some paintings with this theme for my new gallery here in Seattle. By coincidence a friend of my daughter has a pond with Koi fish and water lilies, when we phoned them to ask if they knew where we could find a pond, they thought that we were kidding!  so on finding out we had hit the jackpot, we whizzed over there on a perfect summers day to get some reference photos. This is the first of 3. Hope you like, let me know what you think!

1603 Rainier Cherries SOLD

9 1/2" x 14" oil on panel,

These luscious cherries bear the name of the breathtakingly beautiful Washington mountain Mt. Rainier. They are juicy and sweet and so pretty that I had to use them in a still life with these two copper items.

This photo of Mt. Rainier was taken by my daughter yesterday with her iphone as you can see we have brilliant weather!

1602 Got My Eye on You SOLD

6" x 6" oil on canvas,framed available

This is the last animal painting for a while while I concentrate on other projects.

Painting while looking after a one year old grandson is a real challenge, and trying to get undisturbed painting time. Kai has 4 molars coming through and he seems to be not too bothered although he doesn't like chewing lumpy food at the moment, and then 4 cats who constantly want to be let in or out and one bringing home 'presents' all add to the chaos.

1601 Wistful SOLD

6" x 6" oil on canvas to be framed,
This sweet pooch looks like he might need a pet or a hug.

Monday, 23 July 2012

1600 Curly & Mo

6" x 6" oil on canvas, to be framed
I am at the moment painting a series of 3 largish canvases with the theme of water lilies and koi which will take me quite a while to paint so to keep something interesting on my blog another set of kitties to keep you going! Hope you all are enjoying the summer and the summer sunshine where you are.

This is one of the sweetest paintings I've ever done and I enjoyed painting it so much.

I'm so excited that my work has been accepted into a gallery in down town Seattle, a prime location and a beautiful gallery by the name of Artforte Gallery. I keep pinching myself to see if it's really true yay!!!!
