6" x 6" oil on canvas sides painted
This is one of my daughter's cats doing what cats do best!
Hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas, I'm still groaning from all the food I ate, and we have only eaten a quarter of our turkey, looks like turkey for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

I photographed this by artificial light as it starts getting dark around 3.30 here, so probably not the best pic. This is a view today out my living room window onto my front privet hedge and gate, you can see what the weather is like here! I swept my front path twice today and of course it snowed again as soon as I was finished each time.... I bought this lovely Poinsettia yesterday and I thought that I would paint it in all it's glory, with a back-drop of snow to set it off nicely
My hubby arrived this morning jet lagged from Atlanta GA, fortunately the airport here was cleared of snow, good thing he didn't get a later flight! Haven't seen him since the summer which is a looong time. He's snoozing at the moment so I thought I'd grab the chance to paint a quick pic!

Another one of my practice paintings.
I have decided that in the new year I want to figure out where I want to go with my painting, of course I would love to earn my living from painting, but I am way off from that. I want to figure out the best way forward and what subjects, style and format I want to concentrate on. I think that I have been jumping around a lot this year in my style and techniques I am at the moment very unclear what to do and I'm not sure how I'm going to get this epiphany. There are many artists who stick to one genre and style and perfect it and their art is recognizable anywhere. I guess I have to become single minded and find my niche and stick with it, it's just finding it!

I did 3 practice pieces yesterday using these cups they were inspired by Carol Marine's book that I just got in the post featuring 100 of her paintings. Well I can tell you it ain't easy to paint as loose and beautiful as she! I'm too much of a perfectionist so I keep on correcting until all spontaneity is lost, I can't help myself gr...
I guess I should have chosen easier objects to paint without so many ellipses. Oh well I'll try some more today and try not to correct so much see if I can improve a bit.

This pretty ceramic hand painted basket I found in a charity shop and knew it would feature in a still life sooner or later, these shiny apples are competing for attention.
So have you done all your Christmas shopping and sent off all your cards well I'm just getting around to it?! I braved the crowds yesterday and came home glad to be out of it. My excuse is that I was snowed in, and supposedly theres's more to come (snow that is). What's the weather like where you are?

Really happy with how this one turned out, I started with a vague idea of what I wanted and then it took on a life of it's own and I went with it! There is lots of different textures on this canvas and materials from rice paper to cheese cloth and rough pumice stone texture at the bottom, structure mediums and metalic paints as well, needless to say I got paint on the walls which always seems to happen when I start flicking paint around. I had to rescue a couple of other paintings that got hit with stray paint!

I used a lot of different materials and mediums and enjoyed the whole experience, I got pretty messy and my room too and am in the middle of the next one which hopefully will be ready to post tomorrow.
So off to slosh some more paint around... til manana.

This is another Irish country scene near where I lived in the midlands.
It's still snowing here in Dublin and is very cold, I have been told the the weather is very unusual for Ireland and certainly for this time of the year too. It does look pretty though especially when you don't have to go out in it ;)) brrr I've got the heating on full blast so I'm toasty!

I have used only two colours for this painting, cobalt blue and light red plus white, as an experiment and enjoyed the process very much. My aim was to make her sweet face the focus of the painting making all other parts secondary and only play supporting roles, I am pleased with the feel of this piece.
We have loads of snow at the moment and it's quite dismal outside which made photographing of this piece a bit of a headache as the colour and value changes are so subtle.
I am always looking for new directions and subjects maybe I jump around too much, but I get excited by so many ideas that I want to try out I just can't keep to one theme or style for long. I guess that's the joy of being creative.
