1335 Tied Up SOLD

6" x 8" x 1/4" oil on panel

Another boat painted with a palette knife, this time I got smart and wore plastic gloves so they got messy instead of me! Although of course I still managed to get paint on my arms and face.
I've spent the day at my computer, somehow the time just gets eaten up and I get very little done, there is so many interesting blogs to scour and interesting resources, how on earth did I manage before, it certainly makes the world a whole lot smaller.

1334 Side by Side SOLD

6" x 8" oil on panel

My second painting using only a palette knife, I got just as messy painting this one as the last!
The ref photo for these two small boats I took in Garrucha Harbour when I lived in Spain, I have a few more that I took there that I have been wanting to paint for a while. But I think I am stalling a bit as those big canvases are still there eyeing me and I feel a bit daunted by them, maybe soon....

1333 Here's Looking at You SOLD

12" X 9" x 3/4" oil on canvas, sides painted

Here is probably my last kitty painting for a while I thought I would end on a dramatic note! Unless any of you nice bloggers out there has any wonderful kitty pics I could use as a ref. photos, I will probably get on to my next subject I am a bit stumped as what to paint next! I bought 3 larger gallery wrapped canvases (as they were on sale) and they are staring at me with there white bleakness at the moment a bit like the inside of my brain!
Maybe I will be hit with lightning and come up with a brill. idea.... ho hum, it's funny you are rolling along with masses of ideas and all of a sudden come to a screeching halt and can't think of a thing to paint.Well tomorrow is a new day and I will see what happens then.

1330 Gently Rocking SOLD

  6" x 8" oil on panel
My first knife painting for a long while, I felt like doing something different for a change. It was more difficult than I thought and much more messy, I got paint everywhere including my face and clothes which is par for the course only more so!
The ref photo I took in Wicklow Harbour on the east coast of Ireland, might do a few more like this in between a few more cat paintings, mix it up a little.

1329 'Reluctant Poser'

9" x 12" oil on canvas
This cat belongs to my artist friend Belinda, I asked whether I could get some shots of her 3 cats, we only managed to corner one and he wasn't fond of the attention just wanting to get back to his cosy perch on Belinda's bed. The minute after I took the ref photo he struggled out of her arms and was gone.

1328 ' Is that Rain?'SOLD

11" x 14" oil on stretched canvas

Here is my next cat painting, one that I started before going on my workshop, another layer of paint and my kitty cat came to life. She is looking out onto a rainy day and wondering whether it would be worth getting her fur wet to venture outside. I am so enjoying painting this series that I can't wait to start on the next one.

Portrait Workshop

I have just finished taking part in my first 3 day portrait workshop given by Susan Carlin from San Antonio, Texas, a gifted portrait artist, here she is pictured doing a demo, who came all the way to Dublin to teach this workshop. I had 'met' Susan before through our blogs and watching her paint on ustream, and was so excited to actually be able to take part in one of her workshops here on my doorstep too, what a treat.
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/susancarlin
We spent 2 days painting from reference photos and the third day we were lucky enough to have a live model for the whole day. I have learnt so much in these three days, that when I came home and looked at my previous paintings I saw them with new eyes and I can see how much I need to improve my painting skills and  my drawing skills and painting looser and with more confidence.
Painting from a live model is a whole new ball game for me, never having found anybody who would willingly sit for me. I found it very daunting and couldn't get the drawing at all right after 3 wipe outs Susan came to my rescue.
I managed to paint 4 portraits that are all work in progress 3 of which I will post below.

The last painting was from the live model.
After the official workshop was over Susan painted a portrait of her host Jan Hyland which she broadcast live on ustream , some of us stayed to watch, a wonderful portrait in an hour!

Peoples Art Exhibition

Here I am doing my first Art Exhibition in Ireland!
It was a very interesting experience and I met some lovely people too which was an added bonus as I don't really know anybody here in Dublin.
There were hundreds of exhibitors with a huge variety of styles. We were so lucky with the weather, although they forecast showers and heavy rain these failed to appear, which was a relief. I spent a lot of time framing my work in the week prior and the anticipation was bit nerve wracking as I didn't know what to expect, the next one is in August and I will be better prepared.
