1367 Puss in Boot

10" x 12" oil on linen canvas

Yeh I know it's an obvious title but what else could I call it! As my kitty cat paintings are selling really well I thought that I had better paint some more to replenish my stock.

At the moment I have so many ideas that I want to try out and maybe get back to a spot of abstract painting, I am always itching to do some after looking at the wonderful paintings of Carol Nelson, and maybe dig out my watercolours too, I seem to be pulled in all sorts of directions, do I stick with one medium and style, is that better than to get side tracked, is a question I often ask myself.

1366 Shadow Play SOLD

8" x 10" = 20.3 x 25.4cms oil on canvas panel
Another still life featuring this brass and copper jug that I found in a junk shop and gave a bit of polish to. This one has taken quite a long while to finish and get right so I think I need to paint something loose next and slap on a bit of paint and get messy I've had enough of precise and fiddly for a while I think!

1365 Precious SOLD

Oil on stretched linen canvas  30 x 30 centimeters  =11.8" x 11.8"

I have been working on this one for a while but got caught up in painting small still lifes. I find it hard to switch back and forth, prefering to paint one picture at a time, anyway its finished at last. I find those expressions on those little faces just precious and they do make me smile so.

1364 In the Limelight

 7" x 5" = 17.8 x 12.7cms oil on panel, unframed

This is another still life, can't seem to get enough of them!
Thanks so much to everybody for your positive comments on this series, it has been so encouraging and to know I am on the right track. I have for so long tried to paint loosely and now I am heading in the other direction completely, funny that! I guess everybody develops their own style that they are comfortable with, in the long run.

1363 I'll Scratch Your Back If...SOLD

6" x 8" oil on panel
Still in still life mode although I did go back to my kitty painting which was a bit confusing as I painted that in a totally different way, had to switch thinking and then to come back to still life again and switch back.  Love these two shiny red examples of pepperhood, had fun with the reflections!

1361 Well Balanced SOLD

8" x 6" oil on gessoed panel

Well you could say I'm on a still life roll, I'm loving painting these fruity pics, my kitten painting keeps looking at me from a shelf above my desk and they seem to be asking why I won't finish them weellll... I will, I promise, but I have to wait until I get over my enthusiasm for painting these still lifes as I am enjoying painting them so much.

1360 Move Over SOLD

8" x 6" oil on gessoed panel

Well I thought that I would try out my newly aquired skills, I remembered that I had a couple of likely subjects in my fridge, set em up and away I went, the trick I have discovered is not to use much paint and blend a lot almost like dry brushing, it is amazing how far a little paint goes. I am quite pleased with this but painting like this is much slower and I'm a bit impatient, still if the result is good I guess it's worth it.

1359 Pear Revised SOLD

7" x 5" oil on panel
This is the revised version of my pear from yesterday after the critique from Jonathan.

A Practice Pear

7" x 5" oil on gessoed panel
I have spent the day painting this pear, I purchased an on line alla prima painting course by Jonathan Aller and this is the resulting painting. A very different way of painting than I normally use and much cleaner, me I mean!!  I am usually covered in paint and have to suit up before I start lol ! I can recommend this short course if you are interested in painting like he does. You watch him paint every part of the painting on videos on youtube with commentary, really easy to follow instructions. Check out his blog .
and see for yourselves.

Talking Art

8" x 10" oil on panel
I was in the middle of painting two kittens when I suddenly needed a kitty break and paint something else. I had a hankering to paint some figures and looked through the photos that I took on the last exhibition and found one of my artist neighbour chatting to a prospective client  who was standing with his wife, but all you could see of her was a hand and a foot which looked rather odd, so well was she blocked out by her husband. I decided to leave her out of the picture, everything went well until I got to the face in profile and that took me the longest time to get it to resemble Liam half way.
It is late and the light is almost gone so this isn't the best photo of the painting, I might re-photograph it tomorrow and then its back to the kitteehs...

1358 October Kitty

6" x 6" oil on canvas, sides painted

I have finally stopped procrastinating and have recovered from the previous week-end and started to paint again. It is strange that although I want to paint it is hard to get started again even after a short break, I am not sure why, anybody the same as me?
Well anyway here is a sweet little kitty amongst the autumn leaves a small one to warm up. If anybody out there in blogger land has any nice pics of their feline friends that they could send me I would be eternally grateful!
I started a larger one of two kittens that have faces that make me smile when I look at them.
