Short Break

Well hubbies back after a couple of months away working so haven't had much time or inclination to paint, but saying that I have just started painting a portrait for the blog - 'Different Strokes from Different Folks' . We each got a photo of another artist taking part, to interpret as we like.
I was told recently by a relative that I paint very conservatively, I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean but I have a feeling that it was a criticism, well I guess that's just my style and the way I like to paint! So check out my blog soon I should have the painting done before Christmas.

1203 'Connemara Lakes' SOLD

12" x 14" oil on canvas panel

The myriad of lakes in the area of Connemara in Galway, each more picturesque than the other seemed to shine against the the rough surroundings, reflecting the Autumn skies. Such a rich place for artists to capture beautiful scenery. Maybe not as imposing as the alps, but these gentle Irish mountains were none-the-less pleasing to the eyes and senses.

1202 'Last of the Sun's Rays' (available)

8" x 10" oil on gessoed board, framed
This painting I have been working on for a while and I think I should have painted it larger, it was an exercise in perspective although what attracted me to the scene was the setting sun and the last light bouncing off the brickwork of the houses. Will I have the patience to paint this one again I dont know! The row of cottages is just around the corner from where I live in Ireland.

1200 'Single Beauty' (available)

6" x 6" = 15 x 15 cm oil on canvas panel
I have been working on a street scene all week on an 8 x 10 board and it has been driving me crazy because of the perspective, so I've put it aside until I get a bit more patience and painted this one and it just flowed off my brush and it revived my spirit after labouring on the other one for so long!

1199 'Made For Walking' SOLD

8" x 8" oil on canvas panel

Another entry for the blog 'Different Strokes from Different Folks' although when I saw this weeks photo, I was rather dissapointed I still decided to go ahead and paint them anyway. I have to say I really enjoyed doing this painting and decided to try and do a fairly loose painting which I find very difficult to do, I managed halfway to be loose and am happy with the results.
