'Onlookers' (available)

8" x 10" = 20.3 x 25.4 cms oil on canvas €49

I couldn't paint yesterday anything worth posting and I'm not too sure about this one although a vast improvement on yesterday's effort. I seem to go through periods of being able to paint and then periods of being totally c...p!

'Strawberry Interrogation!' SOLD

6" x 6" = 15 x 15cms oil on gessoed board
My daughter came into my painting room as I was setting this up, and she said that the strawberries looked like they were being interrogated standing up against a wall, under the bright lamp- hence the title.

For me it is so difficult to loosen up my style, I keep going back in and correcting stuff and fiddling.

'Well I Never!' SOLD

8" x 6" = 20.3 x 15 cms oil on gessoed board €35
The lemons I bought on the market and in my bag of lemons they were all sizes from orange size right down to the normal size you buy in a supermarket and they cost me €1 for the lot. These two look as though they are having a chat in passing!

'January Strawberries' SOLD

6" x 6" (15 x 15 cms) oil on gessoed board €39

I saw these strawberries at the local market and they looked so shiny and perfect, and as I haven't tackled them before I thought I would give them a go. I munched on the rest while I painted and they were very good too.

'Mr Cat' (available)

7" x 8" - 18 x 20 cms (aprox.) soft pastel on coloured pastel paper €49
(This photo has a decidedly yellow tinge to it which it doesn't have in reality)This is probably the last in my cat series, I will see how I feel tomorrow. This was the most difficult one yet as I tried a new paper which had a different surface texture that wasn't easy to work on. I want to experiment and make my own surface with coloured gesso. that should be interesting.

'Kitten in a Blanket' (available)

6 1/2" x 7" soft pastel on pastel paper €49
Here's another pastel painting, I am slowly getting used to this medium, it's so delicate and easy to ruin, still I am enjoying this new experience. I shall persevere and see where it leads me.

'Mustard & Mandarin' SOLD

6" x 7" - 15 x 18cms oil on gessoed board
This is yesterdays painting that I hadn't quite finished so I'm posting it today. This painting I found quite difficult couldn't get it to my satisfaction, wiped it out and started again. This is my best effort, not totally satisfied but it was a learning experience.

'Ship's Cat' (available)

8" x 10" soft pastel on pastel paper $99
Here's my first attempt at painting with pastels, I bought myself a small set in Germany at Christmas. Boy it's different from oils and acrylics, not easy, apart from the fact I'm covered in it, face as well, and I kept smudging it with my hand. I guess you have to get the hang of it, must read more on methods and techniques!

'Double Reflections' SOLD

6" x 8" - 15 x 21.5 cms oil on gessoed board

I am really pleased with this one, I have been looking for some new items to paint, so I dug out these silver condiment pots from my basement, they had to be cleaned first with silver polish to make them shine. Then I experimented with the lighting set-up to get something dramatic and violá the resulting painting!

'Posing' SOLD

6" x 6" - 15 x 15 cms. oil on gessoed board
These three lovelies wanted their picture painted before they got eaten. I am trying to get a bit more impressionistic still struggling with that.

Saturday, 5 January 2008

'Fiesta In Seville' (available)

6" x 8" - 15 x 20.5 cms oil on gessoed board
These two ladies were taking part in the fiesta parade in Seville. Every town and village in Spain has there own Fiesta, there always seems to be one on, every couple of weeks somewhere, accompanied by lots of noise and fireworks.

'Ozzy' NFS

6" x 7" - 15 x 18 cms oil on gessoed board

This little puppy belongs to my neighbours, they went for a coffee at a local cafe just before Christmas, while they were there a Spanish woman wanted to pay for an ordered Christmas cake with a puppy in a cardboard box! The proprietor of the cafe wanted money for the cake so the woman left without the cake and the puppy.
All the customers in the cafe fell in love with him, but it was my friends who took him home. He is a bright, healthy and an absolutely adorable puppy, and of course I couldn't resist painting him!

'Many Reflections' SOLD

6" x 6" - 15 x 15 cms oil on gessoed board
This is yesterday's painting, it was too dark to photograph it properly so I left it until today. This is rather a busy painting for such a small format so I think I should have used a bigger board, still it's another learning experience for me.
