'Blue Horse' SOLD

7" x 6" - 18 x 15 cms
This little horse comes from Denmark and belonged to my Mother and the 2 marbles I bought among others from a Christmas market in Heidelberg. Somehow I think they go together but I don't know why, they just look right.

'Poppies in a Blue Vase' SOLD

8" x 10" - 20 x 25cms. approx. acrylics on canvas
Well my New Years resolution is to try to paint looser, so I've started already with a very impressionistic acrylic flower painting!

This is the portrait I have been working on, up until Christmas. This little boy was just short of his 1st Birthday when I took his photo. I spent an hour or so with him and his Mum and Nan and none of us could get him to crack a smile no matter how much we jumped up and down or made faces for him! I think he was thinking ' what's the matter with all these people!!!'so the result is a serious almost grown-up portrait. I wonder what he will think of it later in life?

Going Away!

Well I'm off to Germany for a break away with Liza my daughter, for a week, to do some shopping for art supplies and other stuff and to visit friends. Then my hubby's home for Christmas so whether I get any painting done I don't know, but regular service will resume as soon as possible!

'A Quick One' SOLD

6" x 6"- 15 x 15 cms. oil on gessoed board

This is a revised version of my original posting as the plate was rather out of shape.

'Looking the Other Way' SOLD

6" x 6" - 15 x 15 cms. Oil on gessoed board
Here is a quick one I did the other day and wasn't that pleased with it. I find if I paint when I have other things on my mind then the resulting painting isn't very good. I have been getting some larger paintings ready for a local exhibition so I have had a lot on my mind together with the fact I am going away for a week on Sunday to Germany, Christmas is coming and I haven't sent a single card.. not in the mood, so I'm not very productive this week.

'Side by Side' (available)

7" x 6" - 18 x 15 cms €65
Well I'm really tired now so I'm posting this without any comments.

Friday, 30 November 2007

'Just Cut Up' SOLD

6" X 8" - 20 x 25 cms (approx.) CLICK IMAGE TO ENLARGE
Here's another orange painting I'm trying to get more impressionistic but I find that harder to do than trying to paint realistically, I keep tweaking a painting sometimes more than I should, bad habit.

Thursday, 29 November 2007

'First Oranges' SOLD

6" x 8" - 15 x 20 cms aprox.
I bought a whole bag of oranges from a man at the side of the road just outside his house and orange groves. They are some of the first of the season, they are not all uniform in size or shape and not blemish free, I don't think they have been sprayed with insecticide or waxed. personally I don't care what they look like as long as they taste good.
I have just been browsing other daily painter's blogs and there are some absolutely brilliant artists out there and I am in awe of some of them. Sigh.. I hope I can learn something from them.

'Lovely Lily' SOLD

8" x 8" inches - 20 x 20 centimeters aprox. oil on canvas

Like the title says this is a lovely lily and the scent is wonderful, I love flowers especially bold ones.

Tuesday, 27 November 2007

'Sunrise Reflections' (available)

8" x 10" inches (aprox. 20 x 25 centimeters)
This painting looks a lot better than the photo, I have tried to photograph it in different lights but all with poor results.
Yes I know it looks a bit 'kitchy' but that's how it really looked. I got up early one morning and noticed the sky looking promising, so I grabbed my camera and dog and hoofed it down to the beach where I took loads of great pics. Sometimes you have to grab the moment and go for it, that sunrise was spectacular even before the sun had broken the horizon the colours of the sea and sky were breathtaking.

'Looking Out To Sea' (available)

8" x 10" Oil on canvas

I started 2 different paintings today both of which I wiped off my canvas. So I decided to paint something totally different for a change. So this is a small sea-scape mainly painted with a pallete knife, nice and loose, they say a change is as good as a rest! The scene is from a shot I took up the coast, here the coast line is largely very craggy and unspoilt and very desolate.

'In the Family' SOLD

8" x 10" Oil on canvas
This painting I started yesterday but was too tired to finish and I didn't like it at all, so I wiped it out and started today afresh. What a difference a day makes, it almost painted itself and I am happy with the results this time!

'Rocky' NFS (commission)

13" x 16" Oil on canvas
Well I have finally finished this portrait of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and I am publishing this so you can see what has been keeping me so busy. Next week when I hope that it will be dry, then it's off to the framers for him. He is going to be a Christmas present for my clients husband, I hope he likes it!
I have started a new portrait commission this morning of a little boy, a client's grandson, such a soft, lovely face that should be wonderful to paint.

Tuesday, 20 November 2007

'Pepper in a Pot' SOLD

6" x 6" oil on gessoed board
This little pepper I bought on the market, one of a whole bag full of tiny peppers. The pepper was easy to paint but when I got to the glass dish I had all sorts of problems because I was standing above it and to the side so the foot always made it look as if it was about to topple over. So after a lot of fiddling I think I've got it (halfway anyway!)

Saturday, 17 November 2007

'Pretty in Pink' (available)

8" x 10" acrylics on canvas
Here's another rose painting, which I am pleased with. I almost finished it last night but I was just too tired and did my final tweaks this morning and photographed it and cropped it which all takes time. I seem to spend many hours a day on the computer, brilliant invention, I don't know how I managed without it!

Thursday, 15 November 2007

6" x 6" oil on canvas board
Well here's our evening meal, bacon omelet the before picture, a new subject for me and rather interesting.

Wednesday, 14 November 2007

'The Odd One Out' SOLD

6" x 8" Oil on gessoed board

After a shaky start I managed this one, raiding my fruit bowl again! I guess what is in the back of my mind is that I have one commission to finish and another to start. Sometimes it's a daunting task painting portraits - wondering whether they will turn out alright, they usually do but there is always a bit of fear of failure involved.

'Autumn Flowers' SOLD

6" x 6" oil on canvas board

I am having trouble painting this week, I managed this one yesterday they are chrysanthemums typical autumn flowers.

Tuesday, 13 November 2007

'Sandia' (available)

13" x 9.5" acrylic on canvas

This is one I did earlier, yesterday I just couldn't seem to get my act together and paint anything that I liked and today I'm having the same problem. I have wiped out 2 attempts already and I'm not sure whether the one I am painting now is up to scratch, if it is you will see it later today. Anyway this is a still life I painted in the summer when the water melons were dirt cheap and lovely and sweet and juicy. Some days painting is easy and others, definitely not!!

Saturday, 10 November 2007

'Blues n' Green' SOLD

6" x 8" Oil on gessoed board
Three ornaments that I bought yesterday from my favourite charity shop, they seem to have an endless supply of knick-knacks! I grouped them together for a pleasing still life set-up.
I thought this one should be a quick one but the more I looked, the more details I saw, and the longer it took to paint, still I am happy with the results.

Thursday, 8 November 2007

'The Scent of a Rose' SOLD

10" x 8" acrylics on canvas
This lovely rose took me longer than a day to paint but I think I am pleased with the resulting pretty painting.

Wednesday, 7 November 2007

'Sweet Scent' (available)

6" x 6" oil on canvas board
This is rather a dark one but I thought I needed a change from fruit and veg. this is a hand-made, scented oil burner that I bought in Germany many years ago from a lovely little pottery in Dilsburg near Heidelberg.

Monday, 5 November 2007

'Me & My Pal'

7 1/2" x 6" oil on canvas board

What a lovely colour and texture combination I enjoyed painting this one.

Friday, 2 November 2007

'My Favourite Fruit' SOLD

8" x 6" oil on gessoed board
Pomegranate season is upon us and I love them and tend to eat one most days.
So this big fella won't be here tomorrow!

Wednesday, 31 October 2007

'Apple Reflections' SOLD

6" x 6" Oil on canvas board
This is one of the apples from yesterday cut in half laying up against a ruby red glass bowl, I painted this while I ate the other half, the best apple I have ever eaten.

'Crispy Red' (available)

6" x 6" oil on canvas board

Here's my painting for today, these are perhaps the reddest apples I have ever bought I am looking forward to finding out whether they are as good to eat, as to look at.

'More Mandarins' SOLD

6 1/2" x 4 1/2" oil on canvas board SOLD

More lovely mandarins today I had a bit of trouble with the background so I didn't post this yesterday until I had got it right today, so now I have to go and paint todays offering.

Sunday, 28 October 2007

'Mandarin Reflection' SOLD

6" x 6" oil on canvas board

This is one of the first Mandarins of the season that I bought on the market, complete with stalk and leaves. As the season progresses they get cheaper and cheaper which is great for us - plenty of natural vitamin C. I got out my favourite vase again for this one as it so interesting painting reflections.

Friday, 26 October 2007

'Lapices' SOLD

6" x 7 1/2" oil on canvas board

This hand painted container for pencils I bought at a local store and the flowers are from my patio I can't remember what they are called. It's fun trying to find new things to paint and different lighting setups. I am posting 2 today as I hadn't finished this to my satisfaction yesterday.

'Regal' (available)

4.6" x 7.5" oil on gessoed board
This is one of the artichokes from yesterday I thought it looked very regal in this vase and cut a board to fit it! I am pleased with this one.

Wednesday, 24 October 2007

'Artichoke Season' SOLD

6" x 7 1/2" ins. oil on canvas board
As the name suggests it's artichoke season, these were grown locally and bought at the local store. I just had time to paint this before starting a commissioned portrait which I will post in a couple of weeks when it's finished.

Tuesday, 23 October 2007

'La Mancha' SOLD

8" x 10" ins. Acrylic on canvas
I haven't had time to paint anything yesterday as I was taking my old man to the airport - up, up and away again. So today I fancied doing another typical Spanish scene, these are in La Mancha, they have been restored. I passed a lot of ruined molinos yesterday travelling back from Murcia some were still with their sails intact others just the towers. These look pretty impressive against that lovely blue sky.

Thursday, 18 October 2007

'They're Mugs' (available)

7.5 " x 6" oil on canvas board €29
This is the last posting for the day these two mugs I thought would be easy to paint but getting them symetrical seemed to elude me so in the end I had a look at them in the mirror which helped to get them right at last.

'Just Laying Around' SOLD

6" x 6" Oil on canvas board
This is my first mushroom painting, it was an interesting subject many shades of white on a light background, you never stop learning. The more I paint the more I realize that I have a long way to go!

'Lovely Oranges' SOLD

7.5" x 6" Oil on canvas board
I am trying to paint more impressionistic which I find hard as I have this perfectionistic part of me that doesn't like it! But saying that I really like this painting and I'm pleased how the plate turned out, (it was another find down at 'Paws' charity shop)

'High Up Here'

8"x 10" acrylic on canvas
Well blogger picture upload has been on the blink most of this week, it's finally working today so I will have to post all my paintings in one day. I have posted this painting before but after looking at it for a while I knew it needed some adjustments so I'm re-posting the new version. This is a typical Spanish roof top and rustic chimney stack with a little kitty braving the heights.

'Before I Broke It'

4.5" x 6.5" inches oil on canvasboard
As the name implies this little bottle no longer exists I have had a smashing time, this is the third glass container I have broken in two days, they say everything comes in 3's so I'm hoping that's the last breakage for a while. Glass has no chance on my tiled floors and such a mess to clean up.
Well I'm not really back in the swing of things I'm finding painting not so easy the last couple of days - yesterday was a disaster. Maybe tomorrow will be better. The flower in the bottle is a
Crossandra if anybodies interested!

Tuesday, 9 October 2007

13" x 9.5" inches acrylic on canvas
This is one I did earlier! I painted this one a couple of months ago and I am quite pleased with it, I have been painting all afternoon and can't manage to paint anything I am satisfied with so I've given up for the day and will start afresh tomorrow, with new elan and hopefully I'll manage to produce something passable. Hence the posting of a reserve painting!

Monday, 8 October 2007

'Spanish Gold' SOLD

6" x 6" Oil on canvas board

Spanish oranges are so sweet and juicy and when in season you can buy 3 kilos for €3 that's a whole plastic shopping bag full from the local street market, so freshly squeezed orange juice is on the menu for breakfast everyday. These segments were backlit from a window and are on a stainless steel plate.

Friday, 5 October 2007

'Spanish Church' SOLD

8" x 10" acylic on stretched canvas
Here's a change of pace for you, I have been wanting to paint this scene for ages, it was a church we found on a day out. It was located on it's own, high up on a hill with only a few houses dotted around in the countryside. Whether it's still used I don't know. I used acrylics instead of oils for this one though I think I prefer painting with oils.

Thursday, 4 October 2007

'I See You' SOLD

6" x 6" Oil on Canvas board

This portrait of a cat took a while to paint but I think I've captured her reasonably well. Well got to get back to my easel for my next one.

Wednesday, 3 October 2007

'Something to Crow About' SOLD

7.5" x 9.5" Oil on canvas board
A hand-painted ornament that I found on a flea market, I like the colour and it's quirkiness, I have been painting a cat all day and it's taking me forever to get it's fur right, I hope I can post it tomorrow, I am waiting for it to dry as I want to put a glaze on it. So I felt like painting something that wasn't so complicated.

Tuesday, 2 October 2007

'Three in Green' SOLD

6" x 6" oil on canvas board

Well I changed my focus from fruit to vegetables and its green on green, challenging to paint but there's a first time for everything.

Monday, 1 October 2007

'Crispy Green' SOLD

6" x 6" Oil on canvas board

I'm on a roll where fruit are concerned, got to get some more from the market for tomorrow's painting.

Friday, 28 September 2007

'Plummy' SOLD

4 & 3/4 x 6 & 1/2 inches Oil on canvas board
I have raided my fruitbowl again for these plums that I bought at the local market. The weather is cooling down here so it's much more pleasant to paint, the last time I painted out-doors I nearly had a heat stroke! So sitting in my art room with the fan on is really pleasant.

Thursday, 27 September 2007

'Lean on Me' SOLD

4 & 3/4" x 6 & 1/2" oil on board

Two lovely little pears, they seem not to grow very big around here, not a typical Spanish fruit, not like pomegranites that grow wild here.

Wednesday, 26 September 2007

'Pensive' SOLD

4" x 6.5" inches Oil on canvas board

This small painting was for some reason very difficult to photograph and after many attempts this is the best I can do. She is a really sweet kitty and must feel lovely to cuddle. I enjoyed this one although it took me quite awhile to finish.

Tuesday, 25 September 2007

'Who Lived Here?' NFS

7.5" x 9.5" Oil on canvas board

This is one of many ruins that dot the landscape around here, they are very simple dwellings normally two rooms plus one for the donkey. The ruin is framed by three Agave plants. The dried flower stems of these were used as rafters for the cortijos as they were both strong and light. There are very few trees growing naturally around here as this area is very arrid

Monday, 24 September 2007

'Room for One' SOLD

6" x 6" oil on canvas board

------------------------------------------------------------ ------

This lovely bowl I picked up the other day at a flea market. While I was painting it I thought that my perspective was out or I had wonky vision until half way through and on closer inspection of the bowl I realized that one side was lower than the other, so it wasn't me! I love the colours together, happy colours.

Saturday, 22 September 2007

'One Missing' SOLD

6.5" x 9.5" inches oil on canvas board SOLD

Here's my first tomato painting. I was going to paint five but one fell off my vine, and then there were four. I thought how hard can it be to paint a tomato? mmm not so easy, anyway I think I will have to tackle this subject again soon.
